Venture Capital in the United States (1998-2012)

The National Science Foundation (NSF) publishes a series of science and engineering indicators that includes numbers on VC dollars and number of deals by state. I've pulled together some graphs from this data. Not a lot to explain, except that on the NSF site the $ is listed as current dollars, and it was published in 2014.

The two easiest trends to see are the dot-com bubble in the late 90s-early aughts, and the great recession in 2009. Compared to many sectors of the economy, it seems VC disbursements recovered to previous levels with surprising alacrity.
